Key Facts
Across Nairnshire and Scotland as a whole, many households are living on insecure incomes, unable to meet their basic needs. A Minimum Income Guarantee would set a floor below which no one would fall, helping to reduce poverty and inequality. Here are three key facts that show why we need a Minimum Income Guarantee:
- Poverty is expected to harm Scotland’s economy to the cost of £2.4 billion per year.
- Around £2.3 billion of health boards’ budgets is directed at responding to the impacts of poverty.
- At Nairn CAB we help people who were struggling to pay for essential costs through income maximisation.
